Tools · the engines, with a front door

Four questions that cost real money if you get them wrong.

Do I owe CBAM? Does this consignment qualify for zero-duty preference? What is the demurrage clock actually costing me? How far is that sea lane really — because it isn't the straight line. Each tool runs the same engine our platform runs, answers in seconds, and tells you where the answer stops being reliable.

The tools

Every one runs a real engine, not a lookup table.

Each is indicative decision support. Where an answer depends on something we can't see — the binding Annex rule, your carrier's tariff, your verified supplier emissions — the tool says so rather than guessing at it.

carbon border /api/cbam

CBAM liability check

Iron & steel, aluminium, cement, fertilisers, hydrogen. Tells you first whether you're under the de-minimis — 50 t/yr in the EU, £50,000/12 months in the UK — because most SME importers are, and owe nothing at all. Above it, an indicative embedded-emissions figure with the default mark-up shown separately from the base factor.

preference /api/origin

Rules-of-origin qualification

UK–EU TCA, UK–Japan CEPA, DCTS, CPTPP, AfCFTA. Says whether the consignment qualifies for preferential (often zero) duty and what proof you'd need to hold. Without the confirmed per-HS Product-Specific Rule the verdict is capped at "likely" — a wrong preference claim means the full duty plus a penalty.

cost exposure /api/demurrage

Demurrage & detention exposure

Two clocks, not one: demurrage runs on the box sitting at the port, detention runs on the box being off the port and not yet returned. Enter the dates and see what's already incurred, what's still accruing, and how many free days you have left. Indicative — the carrier tariff decides.

routing /api/searoute

Sea-route distance & transit

Ships don't travel in straight lines. Shanghai to Felixstowe is 18,972 km via Suez against a 9,176 km great circle — a 2.07× detour, and 25,154 km if Suez is closed and you round the Cape. Named waypoints, canals and straits, plus the Cape alternative when a canal is used.

FAQ

Do I have to sign up or pay?
No. All four tools run in the browser against our public API. No account, no card, no gate on the answer.
How accurate are these?
They're indicative decision support, and each tool tells you exactly which input would make it definitive — the binding Annex Product-Specific Rule for origin, your verified supplier emissions for CBAM, your carrier's tariff for demurrage. We'd rather show you the caveat than a confident wrong number.
Is this customs or tax advice?
No. The declarant stays accountable. For regulated advice speak to your customs broker, your accountant or HMRC. These tools exist to tell you whether the question is worth taking to them.
Can I call the engines directly?
Yes. Each endpoint answers a bare GET with its own self-describing contract — inputs, outputs and caveats. The endpoint is named on each tool page.
Indicative decision support, not customs, tax or legal advice. The declarant stays accountable.
